Sveum old, Sveum old for the final 12 games
September 16, 2008I thought we were over the ideas of loyalty to veterans and giving up outs. Now, before Dale Sveum has even managed his first Brewer game, Tom Haudricourt packs one paragraph with several of the worst ideas of the season.
… Mike Cameron [is] leading off. Sveum just said he wanted some experience in the top spot, so he was willing to ignore Cameron’s high strikeout rate and low on-base percentage. He told the team in a meeting a little while ago that they would be doing more bunting and hit-and-running — “small ball,” if you will — so he probably wants Cameron’s speed up there, assuming he gets on base.
He “was willing to ignore Cameron’s high strikeout rate and low on-base percentage.” I am certain that Sveum did not say exactly that and Haudricourt was just reminding us about the implications of what he was paraphrasing.
But.
