Apple wants to highlight iPhone’s MLB app, so the demo commercial shows how a user navigates from a full scoreboard to a pitch-by-pitch animation to a video highlight. Opportunistic as usual, they targeted the most affluent MLB markets: Milwaukee and Pittsburgh.

Of all highlights this season, they feature Ryan Braun’s walk-off grand slam to beat the Pirates in the final week of the season.

I like it.

At first glance, I thought, Some marketer didn’t put a lot of thought into this; he just picked the first screaming announcer he came upon. On second viewing, it looks like they put some thought into it. To doctor it up at least.

1) In the scenario presented, the home run highlight that didn’t happen until the 10th inning is available for viewing in the seventh inning. Killer app!

2) The pitch-by-pitch screen shows a situation in which Corey Hart is batting with an 0-for-4 day going. Not hard to believe at all. But Hart finished the day 0-for-4 — never came to the plate with that. Also, it says Prince Fielder is on deck. This never happened.

You can’t afford a backyard grotto on Brewers money

A site called Electronic House has pictures of CC Sabathia’s back yard — “an outdoor entertainment utopia, complete with outdoor sound, video, a pool, grotto, grill and dining areas” … and certainly better than the interior of any of your houses.

Situating electronics near water presents danger, so electronics contractor Sight & Sounds opted for a Sunbrite TV that is weatherproof and operates on low-voltage DC power, so if it were to fall into the water, bathers wouldn’t be electrocuted.

Wait wait wait wait. Where’s Jenks?

I was under the impression that if Geoff Jenkins ever got out of this horrible city of Milwaukee that was unfairly plattooning him, he would surely realize his full potential and be an everyday player again and probably bat third with the decent protection he never had with the Brewers and he would definitely be an MVP candidate, guiding his team to the playoffs and never getting booed.

Now you’re telling me, as a lefty, he is not in the Game 1 lineup against a right-hander? Well, this surprises me.

Come to think of it, what is Rickie Weeks good at?

Brian Anderson? Of all the luck

I always pictured the Brewers in the playoffs as something exciting, something more than a regular season game. More on-field mics, more noise, more drama, recognizable national broadcasters on the call …

Then this happened:

The television voice of the Milwaukee Brewers, Brian Anderson, has been assigned by TBS to call at least the first three games of the best-of-five National League Division Series between the Brewers and the Philadelphia Phillies.

It’s not that I have anything against Brian Anderson. He’s totally average, capable, a little too pro-Brewers, but whatever. Eighty times better than Daron Sutton. It’s just that I wanted a big name. Even Dick Stockton and Harold Reynolds last night made me feel like the game was a little something more.
